Description
The CP1625 Host variant runs on a distributed system. The controller application runs on a Linux PC and PN Driver is split between the Linux PC and the CP1625 board. CP1625 board utilizes SIEMENS SOC1 ASIC including a MIPS processor.
If Linux IP stack of the host system is used for PROFINET instead of the internal IP stack of PN Driver, LD (logical device) part of the PROFINET stack runs on the Linux PC.
The board is plugged into the PC and the two EPS instances communicate with each other over the PCIe interface (see section System Overview).
During the startup phase PN Driver uses EPS mechanism to download the firmware package to the CP1625 board. The firmware package includes the necessary bootloaders, the custom embedded Linux OS and EPS firmware itself.
Note
The description of the necessary steps for porting the MIPS firmware to a different OS is not part of this documentation.
Access to CP1625 board and EDDI integration
eps_pndevdrv is used for access to the CP1625 board from the host PC. At the firmware side, EDDI is used in conjunction with kernel space driver linux_irte_drv to control the IRTE switch controller.
Porting instructions
The requirements for the CP1625 Host variant are similar to the requirements for PN Driver Linux variant. Therefore you can follow the same instructions given in the previous chapters if you want to use a different OS in the host PC. Please note that the OS must support real-time functionality to fulfill the requirements for PN Driver application.
