A data source is a field device which provides the data. You can configure, edit, and delete the data sources.

To add a data source, follow the below steps:

  1. Open Common Configurator application.
    The Common Configurator page opens, displaying available connectors.
  2. Click SIMATIC S7 Connector tab.
    Overview page of S7 Connector appears.

  3. Click 178115016715-d2e3833 tab.
    The Add Data Source window appears.
  4. Select the Communication protocol as either Optimized S7-Protocol or S7-Protocol.
    You can add data source either manually or by importing a file.
  5. Select Add Manually, if you choose to add the data source manually.

    Update the following fields as per the requirement:

    Field name Description
    Name Defines the name of the data source.
    PLC type Specifies the PLC type.
    IPv4 address Defines the IP address of the Optimized S7-Protocol (S7-1200/1500) controller with the desired data points.
    Password Defines the access password. This field is enabled when you select Use Legitimization. The available access level which requires access password on the PLC are as follows:1. No Access (Complete Protection)2. HMI Access3. Read AccessUse corresponding access level password configured on the PLC in this field.
    End entity certificate (DER or PEM format) Optimized S7 connection expects one end-entity certificate on HMI Connection-level configured by an ES. If this information is available, it is used when establishing connections to the PLC configured on the HMI Connection.
    CA certificate chain CA Certificate are used to build a chain of trust for an endentity certificate of a PLC. Those certificates are trusted by Optimized S7 connection, because they are provided by an ES (e.g. by TIA Portal's WinCC ES); the certificates are most likely generated by TIA Portal.

    Update the following fields as per requirement, if you have not entered any values, default values are updated as shown below:

    Field name Description
    Name Defines the name of the data source.
    IPv4 address Defines the IP address of the S7-Protocol (S7-300/400/1200/1500) controller with the desired data points.
    Rack number Defines the rack of the S7-Protocol (S7-300/400/1200/1500) controller. The default value is 0.
    Slot number Defines the slot of the S7-Protocol (S7-300/400/1200/1500) controller. The default value is 1.
    PLC type Specifies the PLC type.
    Full text alarms Enables the full text alarms. This field is displayed when you select PLC Type as 300/400.This checkbox is enabled only when project runtime is not running.

    * Indicates that all fields are mandatory.

  6. Click Add from File to add the data source from an exported file.
    For more information, refer Import configurations.

  7. Click Save.
    The data source is added and displayed in Data Source table.
