Description
You can import data points using the Import tags option and make use of the data in your application effectively.
Procedure
To import the tags at the connection level, follow these steps:
- Open the Get Data tab in the Common Configurator.
Installed or available connectors are displayed.
A SIMATIC S7 Connector can access multiple PLCs at the same time. You can see at a glance how many configured PLCs have been connected and how many tags are transferred: - Click SIMATIC S7 Connector.
The Overview page shows if the communication with the PLC has already been established. - Click the Tags tab.
The tag details are displayed. - Click the icon under Actions column on the data source.
A pop-up menu appears. - Click Import tags.
Import tag window appears:

Click
and choose the file to import.NOTE
You can import .json file, .xml file, or .zip file.
- If you import TIA exported SCADA file (.zip format), it gives 'type safe' address (address converted from Common Import Converter).
- If you import TIA exported XML file, it gives 'absolute' address (exact memory address in the PLC).

Select Acquisition cycle and click Apply.
The Tags included in the exported project are displayed.
NOTE
- Tags that cannot be imported are listed under Invalid Tags.
- If the tags are imported from an unknown data source, the new data source is created.
- If a data source with the same name already exists, the imported tags are added to the tags already existing.
- If the data source with tags is already configured, all tags are listed under the configured data source section.

Select the tags which are to be published.
- Click Import.
Repeat the procedure for further tags which are to be imported with a different Acquisition cycle.
Result
The imported S7 tags are displayed in the Tags page.
Then, click Deploy to publish data and metadata.
