Description
If you have an online connection to the PLC, you can also browse and directly import the data points. Loading the data points may take some time depending on the size of the project.
Prerequisite
Online connection to the PLC.
Procedure
To import data points online, follow the steps below:
- Open the Common Configurator application.
- Click SIMATIC S7 Connector tab.
Overview page of S7 Connector appears. - Click Tags tab.
The Tags tab opens. - Click
icon to the right side of the desired data source.
Browse tag window opens.

Click Start Browse.

Browsing is supported with streaming, and you can browse up to 500k tags.
A new window opens with all available tags as shown below:
NOTE
- Tags with errors appear with icon and cannot be selected.
- For PLC FW 2.9 and greater, TLS security is enabled in the PLC. When browsing, certificates are automatically trusted by the application.
- Browsing by applying filers on Tag Name and Datablock is not supported.

Select the desired tags. Also, choose the following parameters:
- Acquisition cycle
- Access mode
- Acquisition mode
- Click Apply.
- Click Add to Datasource.
All selected tags are added to the data source.
Result
The selected Optimized S7 data points are displayed under corresponding data source. Then, click Deploy to publish data and metadata.
